DTF Heat Press Instructions
Get Professional Results With Your Xstream DTF Transfers
For the best results with Xstream 3D Prints DTF transfers, proper temperature, pressure, pressing time, and fabric preparation are essential.
Because heat presses and garment materials can vary, the settings below should be treated as recommended starting points. Always test when working with a new garment or material.
Recommended DTF Heat Press Settings

Important: Different fabrics, coatings, heat presses, and transfer batches may require slight adjustments.
How to Apply Your DTF Transfer
1. Preheat Your Heat Press
Set your heat press to the recommended temperature, time, and pressure.
Allow the press to reach a stable temperature before beginning.
For consistent professional results, we recommend using a quality heat press rather than a household iron.
2. Prepare the Garment
Place your garment flat on the heat press and make sure the application area is clean, dry, and free of wrinkles.
Pre-press the garment for approximately 3–5 seconds.
This helps:
- Remove excess moisture
- Smooth wrinkles
- Prepare the fabric for application
3. Position Your DTF Transfer
Place the DTF transfer printed-side down against the garment with the carrier film facing upward.
Make sure the design is:
Centered • Straight • Correctly positioned • Completely flat
For consistent placement during production, consider using a garment alignment tool.
4. Press the Transfer
Press at approximately:
300°F–320°F for 10–15 seconds using medium to firm pressure.
Apply consistent pressure across the entire design.
Do not move or slide the heat press while pressing.
5. Peel the Carrier Film
After pressing, remove the carrier film according to the peel characteristics of your transfer.
Peel the film smoothly and consistently, rather than aggressively pulling it away.
If any portion of the design does not appear fully adhered, stop peeling, reposition the film, and press again for several additional seconds.
6. Final Press
After removing the carrier film, cover the design with parchment paper or an appropriate finishing sheet and press again for approximately:
5–10 Seconds
The second press can help improve adhesion, durability, and the overall finished appearance of the transfer.

Important for Polyester
Polyester and other heat-sensitive materials can be susceptible to scorching, discoloration, dye migration, or press marks.
Always check the garment manufacturer's heat recommendations and test a small area first when possible.
After Pressing
Allow the garment and transfer to cool completely before stretching, folding, packaging, or wearing.
For best durability, allow the transfer to fully settle before washing.
Washing & Care Instructions
To help extend the life of your DTF printed apparel:
- Wait at least 24 hours before the first wash
- Turn the garment inside out
- Machine wash cold
- Use mild detergent
- Wash with similar colors
- Avoid bleach
- Avoid fabric softener when possible
- Tumble dry low or hang dry
- Do not iron directly over the printed design
Proper care can help preserve the transfer's color, adhesion, flexibility, and overall appearance.
Troubleshooting DTF Transfers
Transfer Is Not Fully Sticking
Possible causes include:
Not enough pressure • Insufficient heat • Insufficient pressing time • Moisture in the garment
Reposition the carrier and press again for a few additional seconds.
Edges Are Lifting
Check that you're using even pressure across the entire design. Seams, collars, pockets, zippers, and other raised areas can prevent the press from applying uniform pressure.
A pressing pillow or appropriate platen setup may help.
Transfer Looks Scorched or Garment Is Discolored
Your temperature may be too high for the garment. Reduce the temperature and verify the manufacturer's recommended heat tolerance.
Transfer Cracks or Has Poor Adhesion
Review your temperature, time, and pressure. A proper final press is also important for achieving a durable finished application.
Important Notice
These instructions are provided as general recommended starting settings. Heat presses can vary significantly in actual temperature and pressure, even when their displays show identical settings.
Fabric composition, coatings, dyes, garment construction, and environmental conditions can also affect application.
For large production runs, Xstream 3D Prints strongly recommends performing a test press first.
